Hayling Billy 5 Raises £1200 for local Headway Charity

Five Mile race and Junior runs held on 16th June 2010

Victory AC chose Headway Portsmouth as the beneficiary of the 2010 Hayling Billy 5 Race in recognition of a members who was mugged while out for a run and suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result.
Victory AC Coach, Peter Harding said: "We are so thankful that he is on the mend and receiving such excellent support from Headway that we wanted to show our appreciation by raising funds towards this great cause."
The event took place on a fine evening with almost idyllic conditions for running, which has become almost the norm for this event, the evening kicked off with a junior 1 mile race for 8-10 year olds. Some 66 youngsters took part and an astonishing winning time of 6 minutes 13 secs was recorded.
The two mile run (for 11-14 year olds) saw 37 youngsters participate. The winning time recorded was 11 minutes 12 seconds which was outstanding!
The senior run, with ages ranging from 15 to over 60 was contested by a staggering 179 runners with the first runner crossing the line in a time of 27 minutes 21 seconds.
As in previous years, after administration costs are removed all monies raised go to the nominated charity. Shelley Butler, Chairman of Victory Athletic Club, visited the local Headway Centre with her son to present the cheque and said "We are proud that the £1200 raised this year will go back into a local charity that provides such remarkable support for people suffering the effects of a brain injury."
